Tanya Saracho is a playright, actor and director who was born in Sinaloa, México. She is a resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists and Teatro Vista, a Goodman Theater Fellow at the Ellen Stone Belic Institute for the Study of Women and Gender in the Arts and Media at Columbia College, an Artistic Associate with About Face Theater, the founder of The Ñ Project and the Co-Founder and former Artistic Director of Teatro Luna: Chicago’s All Latina Theatre.

Saracho’s new piece tells the story of Erika, a twentysomething struggling to find her way in life. However, Erika has a dark and terrible secret which could destroy her family if it was discovered. As the play evolves, Saracho is exploring the multiple ways her guilt manifests itself. What does your guilt look like?

Q. Brief description of the project (as you envision it now):
A. This play used to be about guilt manifested but now I’m trying to figure out how to just make it about guilt.
Can you identify the first spark of the idea for this play? Was there a moment, an event, an image, a practical challenge, or a question that got your imagination working?
Yes, but now that idea is irrelevant because it’s no longer going to be a part of the play. Ok, I know this might sound crazy to some but I thought I was being chased by an angel.
